Resensi: Psychosis or Mystical Religious Experience?—A New Paradigm Grounded in Psychology and Reformed Theology

Gema Teologika October 26, 2018 Yahya Wijaya

People sometimes report extraordinary experiences they interpret as divine: a professional leaving a secure job after hearing God's call, a patient recovering after seeing a luminous figure promising healing, or a person opening the Bible to a helpful passage during a dilemma. The text asks whether such accounts should be understood as psychosis (a psychiatric symptom) or as genuine religious mystical experiences. It also raises biblical examples—Moses and the burning bush, Samuel hearing a voice he mistook for his master's—and implicitly questions how to distinguish between pathological and spiritual interpretations of similar phenomena.
