Genio, locura, mimesis y pragmatismo en la religión de William James

Revista de Filosofía Universidad Iberoamericana January 5, 2026 José J. Jatuff

William James, philosopher and psychologist of religion, establishes a dual approach to religion: genetic (historical formation) and evaluative (value). He employs major concepts of his era—the heroic theory of history, the pathological method, sociological mimesis, and pragmatism—to achieve a more complete understanding of the phenomenon. This paper aims to highlight this multiplicity of approaches, revealing a complex concept of religion tied to the great theories of its time while retaining part of its fertility.
