A novel uses the San Pedro cactus to depict shamanic healing and the ecstasy from its consumption as both a chemical and aesthetic process. This ecstasy has somatic-political effects and experimental literary qualities. The trance-induced visions and methods of narrating history lead to a shamanic theory of montage.
