Abstract
The objective of this article is to comparatively analyze two texts from the Peruvian magazine Colónida (1916): “Los tóxicos en la literatura y en la vida”, by Roberto Badhan, and “Falsa carátula”, by Federico More. The method consists of a discourse analysis focused on the roles of the enunciator, the sources, and the rhetoric on entheogens. The results show that both texts represent opposing yet complementary discursive poles: Badhan adopts an intermediate stance between hygienism and decadentist erudition, while More mounts a radical defense of the right to pleasure and intellectual autonomy. It is concluded that this comparison reveals the internal tensions of the Colónida group and the early Peruvian awareness of the global debate that would redefine the place of the coca leaf and opium.
