This article critically reviews the relationship between existential philosophy and enactive approaches to cognition, distinguishing three routes of influence: Merleau-Pontian embodiment, Heideggerian being-in-the-world, and Jonasian philosophical biology. It evaluates the encounter against three burdens: accounting for cognition of absent or abstract possibilities without requiring internal representations; explaining the development of the enculturated person; and relating the genesis of norms to their authority. The review finds that contemporary work on affectivity, selfhood, social interaction, language, and psychiatry achieves substantial integration but not a complete organism-to-person theory. The proposed framework of transformative continuity holds that later personal organizations remain embodied and continuous with living autonomy while introducing novelty not reducible to biological terms, rejecting both reductive deflation and unexplained discontinuity.

The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra from the Rigveda (7.59.12) represents a systematic cultural response to the psychological wound created by the evolution of the human prefrontal cortex (PFC). The PFC enabled temporal projection, which allowed human flourishing but also produced foreknowledge of personal mortality. Terror Management Theory, supported by over 500 replication studies, shows that mortality salience drives human culture, religion, and art. A new physical benchmark shows that quantum coherence in microtubule tubulin networks cannot plausibly scale up to influence neural activity. Modeling tubulin as an open quantum system at body temperature (310 K) gives coherence times of only 13–39 femtoseconds. To affect millisecond-scale brain functions, the coherence would need amplification of about 100,000-fold, requiring roughly 10⁻⁷ watts of power—five orders of magnitude more than the local GTP energy budget (about 6 × 10⁻¹³ W). The work establishes a reproducible thermodynamic and physical criterion for evaluating future quantum coherence hypotheses in the brain, without endorsing or refuting any specific consciousness model.

Anesthetics have been used clinically for over 175 years, yet how they block consciousness remains unknown. A paper in Entropy proposes that quantum processes create conscious experience, testing Roger Penrose's hypothesis. Previous experiments showed that Xenon isotopes with nuclear spin (129Xe, 131Xe) have about 30% lower anesthetic potency in mice compared to isotopes without nuclear spin (132Xe, 134Xe), a difference inexplicable by chemistry or atomic mass. The sense of agency (SoA) and the sense of metacognitive presence (SoP) are typically considered to be aligned: both high in normal experience and both low in dissociation. This paper proposes that they actually diverge in opposite directions depending on prediction error (PE). When PE is high, SoA decreases (the action feels involuntary) while SoP increases (the person feels alert and present). When PE is low, as in automaticity or flow, SoA remains high but unreflected, while SoP drops toward zero. This model reframes self-awareness as an artifact of error monitoring rather than of attention, explaining why self-consciousness vanishes during flow despite high attention. The hypothesis is novel and falsifiable, and a minimal experimental protocol is proposed.

TOEI (Dependent Origination Computational Cosmology) is a meta-ontological framework that proposes being is constituted not by substance but by the unfolding of relation, through the structure T→ε→O→I. T is the field of primordial possibility; ε is the principle making distinction possible; O is the self-unfolding of relation; and I is being as a stable relational structure. Time and causation obtain only within O. I has no svabhāva (inherent existence). Phenomenal character is numerically identical with a representational structure in a tag configuration. Version 6.1 corrects a defect in an earlier version that identified the position within a network of distinctions with the tag, which allowed a derivation that would imply panpsychism. The two networks are now explicitly distinguished, and the identity claim itself is unchanged.

Meditation should be understood not as changing internal mental models but as transforming how a person participates in the world through embodied, affective, social, and existential engagement. The Neuro-Existential Architecture System (NEAS) proposes three modes of predictive engagement: prereflective transparency, where experience feels like self and affect; the Witnessing-Space, where mental events become observable phenomena; and the Logos-Vektor/Logos-Prior, which reshapes deeper existential orientations. Shamatha cultivates the Witnessing-Space, while Vipassana activates insight into impermanence, suffering, and non-self. The three marks of existence are contemplatively cultivated Logos-Priors, not metaphysical claims. Awakening is a fragile, recurrent recalibration of engagement, not a final attainment.
