The Mindful Compassion Program Integrated with Body-Mind-Spirit Empowerment for Reducing Depression in Lung Cancer Patient-Caregiver Dyads.

Psychosocial Intervention January 1, 2025 Fei-Hsiu Hsiao, Chao-Chi Ho, Chong-Jen Yu et al. 4 citations

A mindful compassion program delivered to lung cancer patients together with their caregivers reduced depressive symptoms more than a patient-only version, especially for younger patients and those with higher baseline quality-of-life symptom distress. Improvements in patients' mindfulness and self-compassion lowered depression by enhancing general health and reducing anxiety. Caregivers' self-compassion also helped reduce patients' depression by improving patients' quality-of-life functioning and decreasing anxiety. The findings suggest that such interventions can be tailored to individual patient needs, whether delivered dyadically or to patients alone.

Differential Effects of Two Contemplative Practice-based Programs for Health Care Professionals

Psychosocial Intervention November 1, 2019 N. Sansó, L. Galiana, B. González et al.

A comparison of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and compassion cultivation training (CCT) for improving the quality of life of primary care professionals in Mallorca found that both programs improved mindfulness, empathy, self-compassion, and professional quality of life. MBSR was more effective than CCT for two mindfulness dimensions—acting with awareness and non-reacting to inner experience—and for reducing burnout. The study involved 50 professionals, 81% of whom were women.
