Psychology, as a plural field of knowledge investigating psychological phenomena, faces a crisis—not regarding its modern scientific status but concerning the very meaning of being a science. This crisis and paths to overcome it were outlined by German philosopher Edmund Husserl and Brazilian philosopher Raimundo de Farias Brito. The study relates both authors regarding their diagnosis of the crisis, its consequences for psychology, and their proposals for overcoming it (the phenomenological method and the introspective method), as well as their shared project of founding a new psychology (Phenomenological and Transcendent).
