Epistemological Understanding of Science Embedded within Shad Darsana and Buddhist Philosophy

This paper explores the scientific ideas embedded within the six orthodox schools of Hindu philosophy (Shad darsana) and Buddhist philosophy. It argues that these ancient systems contain epistemological methods analogous to modern science, such as perception, inference, comparison, and testimony as valid means of knowledge. The text highlights Patanjali's Astanga yoga as a scientific practice for mind-body connection, useful during the COVID-19 pandemic. Buddhist philosophy, considered materialist and heterodox, offers scientific processes like the Middle Way, dependent origination, and impermanence for achieving knowledge. The paper aims to uncover the scientific notions within these philosophical traditions.
