SEMIOTICS OF CULTURE IN THE CONTEXT OF 4E COGNITION

Cultural semiotics and 4E cognition theory (embodied, embedded, enactive, extended) can be integrated by showing how sign systems correspond to embodied cognitive processes. The semiosphere—a dynamic space of cultural texts and signs—can be reinterpreted as a domain of embodied cognition, where signs activate neural correlates through bodily experience. Semiosis, the continuous interpretation of signs, correlates with enactive cognition, meaning generated through action. Cultural artifacts function as active components of cognition. This mutual enrichment suggests an embodied semiosis framework for future research on culture-cognition interactions, with implications for cognitive linguistics, digital humanities, and education.
