Abstract Cyclocondensation of mescaline (I) with aqueous formaldehyde (II) gives the 1,3,5‐hexahydrotriazine (III) which undergoes ring cleavage and recyclization upon treatment with hydrochlorid acid, producing a mixture of mescaline (I) and anhalinine hydrochloride (IV).
