A 12-week yoga-based meditation and breath intervention delivered via mobile health (mHealth) reduced burnout and improved professional quality of life among healthcare providers at a north Indian tertiary care hospital. The randomized waitlist-controlled trial enrolled 98 healthcare providers (62 males, 36 females; average age 28.26 years). The experimental group attended weekly online yoga sessions and practiced daily at home; the control group continued usual routines.
Adding Vaishvanara Agni meditation to standard treatment for functional dyspepsia improves gastrointestinal quality of life, depression scores, and sleep quality more than standard treatment alone. In a pilot randomized controlled trial, the group receiving meditation alongside standard care showed notable improvements in GIQLI score after 8 weeks, HADS-D score after 8 weeks, and PSQI score after 4 weeks compared with the control group receiving only standard treatment. Both groups improved from baseline at 4 and 8 weeks. The findings suggest meditation as a safe, economical adjuvant therapy for functional dyspepsia, a condition without identified structural or biochemical cause that requires tailored management.
An exploratory three-arm randomized controlled trial found that both Yoga Nidra and Music Therapy, delivered online for 30 minutes daily over 30 days, significantly improved sleep quality, mental health, and well-being in 90 adults recently discharged after COVID-19 hospitalization, compared with standard care. Yoga Nidra showed greater improvements in overall well-being and global health, while Music Therapy demonstrated stronger effects on sleep quality. Large effect sizes were observed across outcomes. No adverse events were reported. The authors propose these low-cost therapies as valuable adjuncts to standard care for post-COVID psychological distress and sleep disturbances.
A 4-day online breath meditation workshop improved sleep and heart rate variability among 41 medical professionals at a tertiary care hospital in northern India during the COVID-19 pandemic. Total sleep duration, deep sleep, REM sleep, and light sleep all increased significantly, while heart rate decreased. Measures of heart rate variability (SDNN and RMSSD) also improved. No significant changes were observed in breath rate, total time awake, or the LF/HF spectrum of heart rate variability. The findings suggest that brief online breath meditation can help induce psychophysical relaxation and combat stress and sleep deprivation in medical professionals.
