In anesthetized rats, a combination of a thyrotropin-releasing hormone analogue (RX77368) and a serotonin receptor agonist (5MeODMT) produced a larger increase in the amplitude and duration of motoneuron field potentials in the lumbar spinal cord than either drug given alone. The findings suggest a potentiating interaction between the 5-HT and TRH systems in modulating spinal motoneuron excitability.
