Mindfulness-based training for women veterans with chronic pain: A retrospective study.

Psychological services November 22, 2021 H. Okvat, Mary C Davis, Erin G. Mistretta et al.

A pilot group program combining mindfulness with trauma-informed care aimed to improve physical and psychosocial functioning in women veterans with chronic pain and PTSD. Among 36 women who began the program, pre-to-post comparisons showed moderate-to-large improvements in pain severity, pain catastrophizing, physical functioning, depression, self-compassion, and positive affect. Compared to 105 referred women who did not engage, those who engaged were similar in demographics, pain diagnoses, and mental health diagnoses but were more likely to have a documented trauma history. The authors suggest findings support a future randomized controlled trial.
