Alpha and theta audiovisual interventions in a reflective chamber demonstrate acute effects on stress and burnout.

NPJ digital medicine March 28, 2026 Aidan Cone, Sam Zuzick, Tiffany Durinski et al.

A single session of rhythmic audiovisual stimulation, delivered via stroboscopic light and binaural beats in an immersive chamber, acutely improved anxiety, mood, flow, and vitality in 74 high-stress employed adults. Alpha (9-11 Hz) and theta (4-7 Hz) protocols produced similar benefits; baseline mood disturbance predicted greater enhancement of existential purpose under theta. Neurophysiological entrainment was inconclusive due to consumer-grade equipment. The uncontrolled design establishes feasibility for future controlled trials.
