[Yoga for mental disorders].

Der Nervenarzt September 1, 2018 K Meister, S Becker

This overview of the literature summarizes evidence on yoga for major psychiatric disorders. The strongest evidence supports yoga for reducing depressive symptoms, though its role in major depressive disorder is less clear. Evidence for anxiety disorders and PTSD is encouraging but not definitive due to few randomized controlled trials and methodological problems. Preliminary evidence suggests meditation-based yoga interventions may help depression, anxiety, and PTSD, but there is a risk of extreme yoga practices. The authors conclude that methodological problems and an unclear risk-benefit ratio preclude definitive recommendations for yoga as an adjunct treatment.
