Embodiment, energy therapy, and the transpersonal
May 28, 2026 Mikella Millen
Integrating embodiment, energy therapy, and transpersonal concepts into art therapy expands treatment beyond individual experience to include awareness of relationships, environment, and the universe. The chapter introduces ancient concepts of universal and personal energy systems, distinguishes between subtle and gross bodies using Hindu Vedic Philosophy’s Koshas, and presents Reiki as a transpersonal modality suitable for psychotherapy because it emphasizes consent and does not require physical touch. The Hindu Chakra System is offered as a framework for understanding energy flow, with each chakra linked to specific body parts, emotions, and symbolic qualities. Clinical examples combine art therapy with reiki and chakra meditations in telehealth settings, and ethical considerations are highlighted.
