The Effectiveness of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction on the Psychological Functioning of Healthcare Professionals: a Systematic Review

Mindfulness September 24, 2020 S. Kriakous, K. Elliott, Carolien Lamers et al.

This systematic review of 30 studies found that mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) effectively reduces anxiety, depression, and stress among healthcare professionals and increases mindfulness and self-compassion. However, MBSR did not appear as effective in reducing burnout or improving resilience. Abbreviated MBSR programs were as effective as the traditional 8-week format. The authors recommend future studies use more robust controlled designs, larger and more diverse samples, and active comparisons between interventions.
