The Use of MBSR in Old Age

GeroPsych September 1, 2025 Philipp Stang, Martin G. Köllner, Daniela Rico-Dresel

A narrative review of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) interventions for older adults finds positive effects on stress reduction, mindfulness, and emotional well-being, with benefits reported for both longer and shorter training sessions. However, the body of research on older adults is small, and the authors call for increased research activity in this area given its high relevance. The review synthesizes current findings but does not present new empirical data.

Digital MBSR training for TIN* Individuals

Philipp Stang, Martin G. Köllner, Maren Weiss preprint

A digital mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) training improved mindfulness skills, life satisfaction with health, and fatigue similarly in transgender and gender-nonconforming (TIN*) individuals and cisgender individuals. TIN* participants reported higher stress, lower life satisfaction, and lower mindfulness than cisgender participants both before and after training, regardless of the intervention. Gender dysphoria scores among TIN* participants did not change. The authors conclude that digital MBSR is effective for TIN* persons but that their persistently higher distress suggests a need for tailored interventions.
