App-Based Mindfulness Meditation for People of Color Who Experience Race-Related Stress: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial
JMIR Research Protocols August 28, 2023 Giovanni Ramos, Adrian Aguilera, Amanda Montoya et al.
This study protocol describes a planned randomized controlled trial testing a self-directed app-based mindfulness meditation program for people of color experiencing elevated race-related stress. Eighty participants will be randomly assigned to either a 4-week mindfulness program or a wait-list control. Primary outcomes are changes in stress, anxiety, and depression; secondary outcomes include mindfulness, self-compassion, and emotion regulation. The authors propose that this will be the first study to examine such an intervention specifically for this high-risk population, with recruitment beginning in October 2021 and data analyzed using multilevel modeling.
