The disturbance in dynamic property in the reconstructed state space during nitrous oxide administration

Neuroreport February 6, 2019 Pil-Jong Kim, H. Kim, T. Shin

During sedation with 50% nitrous oxide, the brain's electrical activity shows a higher-dimensional trajectory in reconstructed state space, especially in alpha and gamma bands, compared with the awake state. The difference was most prominent in alpha band EEG. These results suggest that nitrous oxide disrupts the integration of neural information in a brain-band-specific manner, which may explain the mild cognitive disturbance it produces.
