Benzodiazepine-Induced Modifications of Dream Content: The Effect of Flunitrazepam
Neuropsychobiology February 14, 2008 Jean-Michel Gaillard, Marc Phelippeau
Flunitrazepam, a benzodiazepine with strong hypnotic properties, increased unpleasantness, verbal aggressivity, physical aggressivity, and sexuality in the dreams of eight normal subjects compared to placebo. Dream contents were rated on nine scaled dimensions after laboratory awakenings. The findings suggest a disinhibitory effect of the drug, possibly involving dopaminergic or serotoninergic systems.
