Effect of Aumkara Mantra Chanting as a Holistic Approach for Improving Mental Well-being in Older Adults: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Journal of Ayurveda and Integrated Medical Sciences April 8, 2026 Janki Vekariya, Jhanvi P. Sarvaiya, Arpan Bhatt et al.

Chanting the Aumkara Mantra, an ancient yogic practice, reduces stress, improves sleep quality, and enhances quality of life in older adults. A systematic review of 23 studies, including four clinical trials focused on geriatric mental health, found that the practice lowers stress levels as measured by the Geriatric Anxiety Scale, Perceived Stress Scale, and PSQI scale, and also reduces psychological distress. The practice is described as a non-invasive and cost-effective spiritual intervention for promoting mental well-being in this population.
