The relationship between neuroticism as a personality trait and mindfulness skills: a scoping review

Frontiers in Psychology November 15, 2024 Natalia Angarita‐Osorio, Rosa M. Escorihuela, Toñi Cañete 10 citations

A scoping review of 49 studies found that mindfulness is negatively correlated with neuroticism, a personality trait linked to mental and physical health problems. The review identified four common themes across studies: mental health, cognitive outcomes, physiological symptoms, and mindfulness-based interventions. The results suggest that mindfulness may help reduce neuroticism and its negative effects on well-being, though limitations in the existing research were noted. Future work should address these limitations to better understand the relationship.
