The mind can access information beyond the five senses, including events in the future seconds or days ahead. The Default Mode Network (DMN) acts as a major brain filter limiting this expanded awareness. When DMN activity is reduced—through meditation, neuromodulatory drugs, or near-death experiences—filtering decreases, new neural connectivity develops, and these changes correlate with access to expanded awareness.
