Abstract

There is a growing scientific interest in the relationships among matter, mind and consciousness. A rapidly increasing body of reliable experimental results exists in several areas of parapsychology and non-conventional medicine. Many of these results have not found a satisfactory scientific explanation or explanations in terms of conventional scientific theories. (See the section on the Role of Consciousness.) At the same time, the materialistic theoretical underpinnings of even the physical sciences are being increasingly challenged, for example in quantum physics, where a conscious observer may play a vital role in determining the result of an experiment.
