Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of mindfulness on academic stress among students who are victims of body shaming. The study employs a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental design—specifically, a one-group pretest-posttest design. Research subjects were selected using purposive sampling based on the criterion of students experiencing academic stress due to body shaming. The instrument used was an academic stress scale with established validity and reliability. Data were collected via a pretest administered before the intervention and a posttest administered after the mindfulness sessions. Data analysis was conducted using the wilcoxon signed-rank test to determine differences in academic stress levels before and after the intervention. The results indicate a reduction in academic stress levels following the mindfulness intervention. The wilcoxon test results revealed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores, thereby confirming the research hypothesis. These findings demonstrate that mindfulness is effective in reducing academic stress among students who have experienced body shaming. Consequently, mindfulness can serve as an alternative guidance and counseling service to help students manage academic stress resulting from body shaming experiences.
