Abstract
Mental stress relief is crucial for leading a healthy human life. Meditation is regarded as a stimulus for relieving mental stress over a period. EEG signal provides a deep insight into the underlying changes in brain activities with different stimulation. In this work, effects of meditation on stress have been studied by analyzing frequency and non-linear features of EEG signals. For this study, subjects were asked to meditate by focusing their attention on their preferred objects. 32 channels EEG system are being used to collect data from different subjects. Variation in the power of different frequency bands of EEG signals is studied along with the entropy feature. The results show a decrease in the randomness of human brain post meditation. Also, significant increase in alpha, delta and theta band powers is observed. Preliminary analysis and results suggest that human stress can be relieved through meditation.
