The Discontinuity of Tabula Rasa: An External Structural Hypothesis on the Ontological Connection between Subjective Experience and Trans-generational Culture

Abstract

This paper introduces a persistent but largely backgrounded theoretical anomaly in cognitive science and the philosophy of mind: the structural tension between the trans-generational continuous accumulation of cultural-logical systems and the absolute generational reset of subjective experience (the discontinuity of tabula rasa). Traditional approaches within cognitive evolution and neural emergence attempt to bridge this gap via continuous bottom-up models (genetic encoding, somatic learning, or localized complexity emergence). We argue that these models encounter severe informational and computational limits when accounting for the nonlinear, rapid, and structurally invariant alignment of zero-initialized human subjects into highly complex, pre-existing external symbolic orders. By executing a methodological suspension (phenomenological epoché) regarding the classic internalist question of how neurons generate qualia, we pivot toward a relationist framework. We propose the External Structural Hypothesis, which conceptualizes the subjectiveexperiential layer and the objective-cultural layer not as cause and effect, but as a topological alignment mapped onto an external relational domain. Gödelian incompleteness is deployed here not as a deductive proof of physical dimensionality, but as a formal heuristic demonstrating the structural necessity of external parameters for any self-referential system attempting to close its own conditions of empirical embeddedness. This framework shifts the analytical locus from internal consciousness-generation to external relational-correspondence, offering a robust defensive matrix against reductive physicalist critiques while establishing a novel research program for cognitive architecture.
