Abstract
This chapter explores the intersection of Category Theory (CT) and Artificial Intelligence Qualia Engineering (AIQE). While CT is a well-established mathematical theory, AIQE is a neologism denoting the field concerned with the design and implementation of functional surrogates for subjective experience in artificial intelligence systems, without presupposing consciousness. The meeting point of these seemingly unrelated research fields is valued by the Yoneda Lemma, which may provide the conceptual foundation for establishing a basis for AIQE. Though originating in pure mathematics, the Yoneda Lemma encapsulates a deeply philosophical idea, that is, an entity is fully described by its relations to other entities. This relation-based view offers an alternative to AIQE.
