Abstract
Abstract (English) This paper develops a unified ontological theory of consciousness within the Acta Universi (AU) hypothesis. Consciousness is defined as the generation of coherent thought-forms that create irreversible entropic records in the universal archive . The definition does not require a nervous system and applies to informational processes at all levels of organisation of matter. An entropic measure of consciousness is introduced, allowing different forms of life to be compared within a single scale — from viruses and microorganisms to fungi, plants, animals, collective human activity and planetary-scale systems. Mainstream results (animal-consciousness declarations, microbial cognition, fungal and plant signalling, integrated information theory) are integrated as empirical background, with explicit caveats that numerical estimates of remain model-dependent and illustrative. Testable and speculative predictions are distinguished, and ethical implications of an expanded ontology of consciousness are discussed. All quantitative claims and far-reaching predictions are presented as hypotheses dependent on the adopted assumptions of the model. Complex information processes have been documented in organisms lacking a nervous system; electrical signaling and elements of learning have been described in bacteria and fungi; memory and associative behavior have been observed in plants; viruses demonstrate strategies that are difficult to reduce to simple molecular automation. At the same time, classical problems of consciousness persist in neuroscience, integrated information theory, and quantum approaches. The picture remains fragmented. Individual studies resemble probing different parts of a single object: each yields a locally convincing result, but fails to form a coherent whole. The situation is similar to trying to draw a plan of a building without seeing the façade and without knowing which doors are open and which are locked. The existing "entrances"—the nervous system, integrated information, microbial cognition, plant signaling—illuminate only isolated corridors. Under these conditions, it becomes necessary not only to deepen existing approaches but also to explore the possibility of a broader ontological framework capable of linking disparate observations. The Acta Universi hypothesis offers precisely such a framework: consciousness is viewed as the generation of coherent thought forms that leave irreversible entropic records in a universal archive. This allows for the comparison of information processes at different levels of matter organization on a single scale—from viruses to planetary systems—without requiring the presence of a nervous system or reducing everything to human phenomenal experience. This work does not claim to offer a definitive solution to the problem of consciousness. It proposes going beyond the usual window through which observation was conducted and attempting to travel around the object as a whole—to see how its fragments can form a more coherent picture.
