Abstract
The French version of this paper can be found at: http://ssrn.com/abstract=3525426..In order to understand how human freedom presents itself, I have proposed to distinguish the space of options that can be chosen, from the decision-making instance that chooses. In the first part of the article, starting with the distinction between access consciousness and phenomenal consciousness, we will look at how consciousness participates in the decision-making instance.In the second part, after having argued that the function of consciousness is survival, we will integrate another characteristic of human consciousness, joint attention. This will allow us to define the concepts of collective consciousness and collective unconsciousness, with the hope of reducing the latter by improving the former.
