Abstract
Dreams have fascinated humankind since antiquity and have transcended cultures, religions, and scientific paradigms. From prophetic visions and divine messages to neurophysiological phenomena and psychological expressions of the unconscious, dreams occupy a unique position at the interface of the mind, body, and soul. Ancient civilizations interpret dreams as supernatural communication, while modern psychology views them as symbolic expressions of inner mental processes. In traditional medical systems such as Ayurveda and Homoeopathy, dreams are considered valuable indicators of the individual’s inner state and are often used for diagnostic and prognostic purposes. Homoeopathy, with its emphasis on individualisation and the totality of symptoms, accords with special importance to dreams as expressions of the patient’s subconscious mental sphere. Dreams often reveal latent fears, desires, conflicts, and emotional patterns that are not evident during waking life. Classical homoeopathic literature highlights the role of dreams in remedy selection and case analysis. This article explores the meaning, evolution, universality, physiology, and interpretation of dreams, with special reference to Homoeopathy. Emphasis is placed on homoeopathic case-taking, repertorial use of dreams, and their therapeutic relevance in individualised treatment.
