Abstract
Loyalty is one of the most significant aspects of trust between individuals, and its violation may cause psychological stress, mental instability, and long-term relationship issues. Although conventional methods of restoring trust, such as apologizing, forgiving, and acting consistently, are helpful, they often overlook the profound psychological and neurological consequences of betrayal. Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) should be utilized to repair relationships, as they foster mindfulness that enables awareness of the present moment, promotes nonjudgment, and cultivates kindness. This chapter explores the concepts of betrayal and trust, the consequences of betrayal trauma on the brain, and the concept of mindfulness, which can aid in regulating emotions, understanding others, forgiveness, and maintaining one’s strength in relationships. MBIs are discussed in the context of their application to clinical, professional, and social contexts, primarily in terms of their significance to therapists, leaders, and the general public. The following section combines academic concepts, real-life examples, and tested strategies to demonstrate that mindfulness is a technique that can be employed as both a therapeutic approach and a relational strategy to help restore trust and promote greater psychological safety following betrayal.
