Summary

AI-generated from the abstract

Western civilization has gradually moved away from understanding what consciousness actually is, not through ill intent but through accumulating assumptions. Consciousness is not a product of brain activity, quantum processes, or information integration; it is a state of being in which a living organism directly processes environmental requirements using natural means. The Default Mode Network, when dominant, disrupts this natural state, and mental suffering maps onto self-reinforcing DMN patterns. Independent sources—indigenous traditions, medieval mysticism, developmental psychology, and contemplative neuroscience—converge on a single underlying reality, offering a map for returning to this original state.

Abstract

Abstract This paper presents one fundamental thesis: Western civilization has unintentionally, step by step, moved in a direction that takes it ever further from what consciousness actually is. Not through ill intent, but through an accumulation of understandable assumptions, each building on the previous. This paper identifies the pattern, names the assumptions, and invites researchers to examine them anew. The central claim is that consciousness is not a product of brain activity, quantum processes, or information integration. It is a state of being. The natural state in which a living organism can directly process what its environment requires, using the means nature has provided. The Default Mode Network, when dominant, disrupts this state. What we call mental suffering maps directly onto DMN patterns that have become self-reinforcing. The convergence of independent sources, indigenous traditions, medieval mysticism, developmental psychology, contemplative neuroscience, points toward a single underlying reality. The map for returning to this original state is now available.
