Summary

AI-generated from the abstract

A systematic literature review examines the concepts of karuṇā (compassion) and metta (loving-kindness) in contemporary psychology and Buddhist philosophy, focusing on their role as foundations for ethical psychology. The review covers empirical and theoretical studies on loving-kindness and compassion meditation in psychotherapeutic contexts, their psychological impacts on well-being, and the philosophical links between these virtues and moral ethics in psychological practice. Results indicate that metta and karuṇā practices contribute to increased positive affect, empathic capacity, and psychological well-being, and support a prosocial moral framework in modern psychological ethics.
