Abstract
In the Chhayavadi era of Hindi literature, mysticism emerged as a major poetic tendency, the influence of which is reflected in the works of almost all the prominent poets of the period. However, the nature of mysticism in the poetry of Mahadevi Verma is expressed in a distinctive, profound, and highly refined manner. In her poetry, the spiritual relationship established between the individual soul and the Supreme Soul, the poignant experience of separation, and the quest for the divine beloved provide a strong foundation for mystical consciousness. In Mahadevi’s poetic vision, suffering, compassion, and spiritual devotion appear deeply interconnected. In the Indian literary tradition, mysticism has its roots in Vedic, Upanishadic, and Bhakti-period thought. However, some scholars regard it merely as an Indian adaptation of Western “mysticism.” In contrast, the mysticism of Mahadevi Verma is inspired by Indian cultural and philosophical traditions, in which self-realization, spiritual love, and devotion to the infinite power occupy a central place. In her poetry, mysticism is not merely a philosophical concept but a living experience that provides a new expression to feminine sensitivity, the consciousness of suffering, and spiritual awareness. Abstract in Hindi Language:
