Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) have become widely used in medical and mental health protocols since the introduction of Mindfulness-Based Interventions in 1972. This article examines what makes these two approaches so effective, noting that they are among the most popular tools in contemporary mind-body or integrative medicine and are considered paradigmatic alternative healing practices.
