Comparative Study of REBT and MBCT
Korean Association of Rational Emotive and Cognitive Behavior Therapy February 28, 2024 Min-A Cha
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) share several core principles: both emphasize self-acceptance, caution against critical judgment, use a cognitive approach recognizing how thoughts and beliefs influence emotions and behaviors, stress therapeutic change at a fundamental philosophical level, and highlight the importance of self-therapy through tasks. Research trends show REBT's value as an integrative theory, that combining it with other therapies aids students academically, and that group counseling programs based on REBT are effective. MBCT not only prevents depression but also reduces anxiety and suicidal thoughts. The comparison aims to help counselors apply these therapies appropriately.
