The effect of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) on self-esteem, self-concept, and social anxiety of people with social anxiety disorder

ASEAN Journal of Psychiatry May 1, 2022 Marziea Raee, Nabi Fatahi, Mohammad Sadegh Homayoun et al.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) significantly improved self-esteem and self-concept and reduced social anxiety in people with social anxiety disorder. Thirty individuals from counseling centers in Shiraz participated; 15 received eight weekly 120-minute MBCT sessions over 56 days, while 15 received no intervention. Covariance analyses showed significant differences between groups for self-esteem, self-concept, and social anxiety. The therapy appears useful for increasing self-esteem and self-concept and decreasing social anxiety in this population.

Effects of Stress Reduction Therapy Based on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) on Emotion Regulation Strategies, Perceived Stress, And Quality of Life of Patients with Multiple Sclerosis

ASEAN Journal of Psychiatry April 1, 2022 Mohammadsadegh Homayoon

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) therapy improved emotion regulation and quality of life in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). In a study of 30 MS patients, those who received eight weekly 90-minute MBSR sessions showed significant improvements in self-blame, acceptance, and positive reappraisal compared to a control group. No significant differences were found for mental rumination or adopting a perspective. MBSR also reduced perceived stress and enhanced some dimensions of quality of life, suggesting it may be a useful intervention for MS patients.
