Perceived Stress Change During a Mindfulness-Based Intervention for Emotional Distress: Integrated Evidence From Two Randomized Trials.

Clin Psychol Psychother July 1, 2026

In two randomized trials, participants who completed a mindfulness-based intervention for emotional distress reported reductions in perceived stress. The intervention was associated with decreases in stress levels over the course of the program, suggesting that mindfulness training can help alleviate emotional distress.

A systematic review and meta-ethnographic synthesis of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy for people with major depression.

Clin Psychol Psychother August 15, 2022

A systematic review and meta-ethnographic synthesis examined how Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) works for people with major depression. The review found that MBCT helps prevent relapse by changing how people relate to their thoughts and emotions, rather than by eliminating depressive symptoms. The therapy fosters greater awareness and acceptance of negative mental states, which reduces the likelihood of spiraling into full depression. The synthesis identified key processes such as decentering, acceptance, and compassion as central to MBCT's effectiveness. The authors suggest that MBCT offers a valuable alternative or complement to maintenance antidepressant medication for preventing depressive relapse.
