THE EMERGENCE OF ARTIFICIAL CONSCIOUSNESS AND ITS IMPORTANCE TO REACH THE TECHNOLOGICAL SINGULARITY

Kínesis December 23, 2024 Luiz Raimundo Tadeu da Silva Silva, Alex Fernandes da Veiga Machado, Pablo de Lara Sanches

The Technological Singularity, a future point when a computer program can think like a human with instant access to all recorded information, may produce an entity more intelligent than all of humanity combined. By examining levels of intelligent agent autonomy and engaging with thinkers such as Alan Turing, René Descartes, Ludwig Wittgenstein, John Searle, and Vernor Vinge, the authors argue that artificial consciousness is possible. The pursuit of intentionality through advanced learning algorithms and machine discovery is presented as essential for reaching the Singularity.
