Holo-GIM: An Integrated Model for Advanced Practice

Journal of the Association for Music and Imagery January 1, 2025 Alberto Acebes-de-Pablo, Jim Borling, Carol Bush et al.

The Holo-GIM method combines accelerated breathing with non-classical music to help individuals access their innate healing potential and release somatic resistance. It integrates elements from Helen Bonny's Guided Imagery and Music and Stanislav Grof's Holotropic Breathwork. The article describes core components: assessing client readiness, music selection, breathing induction, guiding process, and post-session considerations, along with kinesthetic and somatic engagement, working with a client's innate healing potential, and cultural considerations.

Music in Psychedelic Research: The Continuing Legacy of Helen Bonny

Journal of the Association for Music and Imagery January 1, 2021 William A. Richards

Music serves as a dynamic presence during psychedelic psychotherapy sessions, enhancing the therapeutic experience. Drawing from the book Sacred Knowledge, this lecture traces the early history of combining music with psychedelic drugs for psychotherapeutic purposes, a lineage shared with Guided Imagery and Music (GIM). It describes playlists designed for 7-hour psychedelic sessions and the specific qualities of music selected for them, illustrating how music can guide and deepen the psychedelic journey.
