Integration of Spiritual Techniques and Memory Reconsolidation: A Study of Buddhist Meditation and Yoga in the Context of Contemporary Mental Health

Subhasita Journal of Buddhist and Religious Studies April 23, 2025 Johannes Bronkhorst

Spiritual techniques from Buddhism and Yoga, such as deep meditation, align with the psychological mechanism of memory reconsolidation, where traumatic memories are consciously re-accessed and their emotional meaning renewed. This qualitative literature study and transdisciplinary discourse analysis shows that these practices activate a neuroplastic state in the brain that supports releasing emotional baggage and improving psychological well-being. The findings suggest that ancient spiritual traditions offer psychological mechanisms for emotional and cognitive transformation relevant to contemporary mental health, bridging mystical and scientific approaches.

Between Form and Emptiness: An Exploration of Buddhist Theme in the Novel The Book of Form and Emptiness

Subhasita Journal of Buddhist and Religious Studies June 29, 2024 Yuemin He

Buddhist ideas, especially the principle that form is emptiness and emptiness is form, are central to Ruth Ozeki's novel The Book of Form and Emptiness. The novel uses multiple narrative voices to show how Buddhist practices help characters navigate personal and social challenges like identity crisis, loss, and uncertainty. Fiction can serve as a medium for sharing Buddhist wisdom and addressing contemporary issues, enriching literary experience with emotional depth and philosophical reflection.
