TRAUMATIC MEMORY OF DI/TII CONFLICT VICTIMS IN 1951-1966 AS MYSTICAL EXPERIENCE IN LEMBANG KADUAJA, TANA TORAJA, SOUTH SULAWESI

The DI/TII rebellion in Lembang Kaduaja, Tana Toraja, led by Kahar Muzakkar, caused severe suffering and traumatic memories for the local community. Using a qualitative, phenomenological approach, the authors interpret this trauma as a spiritual experience. Drawing on the esoteric theology of Simone Weil and Dorothee Solle, they argue that suffering can foster intimacy and hospitality with God and others. The analysis concludes that the community's trauma memory constitutes a supernatural event, teaching the importance of living in peace. The concepts of Tosangrapu and Siangkaran capture two dimensions of the community's response to this mystical experience.
