Understanding Mysticism in Alisher Navoi’s “Foniy” Divan

European International Journal of Philological Sciences March 1, 2025 N. Shoaliyeva

The 15th-century poet Mir Alisher Navoi, writing under the pen name Foniy, wove Sufi mystical concepts into his poetry. His divan explores themes of repentance, annihilation of the self, unity, and divine bewilderment. Navoi argued that love and divine truth transcend religious and physical boundaries, famously equating the Ka‘ba and the monastery. His work, compared to that of Rumi, Hafez, and Sa’di, blends poetic elegance with mystical thought and expresses religious tolerance and unity that resonate with modern pluralism.
