Abstract Ritually used in religious ceremonies and now popular culture, Banisteriopsis caapi (≡ Banisteria caapi ) is the most important ingredient in an inebriating drink known as Ayahuasca. The nomenclatural history of B. caapi and B. quitensis is presented, and both names are lectotypified.
