Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy and Meditative Experience as Factors of Personal Change

Bulletin of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Psychology January 1, 2023 Nadiia Omelchenko, Anton Kurapov 1 citation

Meditation and psilocybin-assisted therapy improve emotional state and psychological well-being, including focus, inner peace, self-awareness, and reductions in anxiety and depression. In a combined quantitative and qualitative study of 33 people, those who participated in both practices had lower anxiety and higher self-awareness than those who only meditated. Participation in psychedelic-assisted therapy most increased subjective well-being. Respondents reported high and sustainable therapy effectiveness, noting relief from depression, improved cognitive function, changed attitudes toward self and others, and increased energy and decision-making ability. The findings suggest these practices are advisable for people with low self-awareness, low well-being, or high anxiety and depression.
