Divine revelation or religious experience: Analysis of different models of understanding of revelation

Kom: Časopis za Religijske Nauke June 23, 2017 Halilović Muamer

This paper examines four models of divine revelation: psychoanalytical, sociological, religious experience, and propositional. The author argues that the psychoanalytical and sociological models lack scientific and logical grounding. The religious experience model, which treats revelation as a sophisticated form of experience, is critiqued for creating epistemological, ontological, and social incoherence. The author concludes that the propositional model is the only logically grounded and rationally acceptable approach, wherein a supra-material being is both the subject and source of revelation. In this view, the Prophet does not create revelation but, through spiritual preparedness, receives a message from God.
