Internalizing Dzikir Values in Developing Students’ Spiritual Intelligence: A Multi-Site Study at Nurul Abror and Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School

Mumtaz. July 15, 2026 A. Suhardi

This qualitative case study examines how the practice of dhikr is internalized to develop spiritual intelligence among students at two Indonesian Islamic boarding schools with different methods. The authors find that dhikr is internalized through role modeling, routine practice, and the cultivation of spiritual meaning, which together shape students' character. The practice is associated with serenity, a sense of purpose, and strong religious and social values, all indicators of spiritual intelligence. The study contributes a model of dhikr development and integrates concepts of tazkiyatun nafs, affection value, and spiritual quotients into Islamic education literature.
