Philosophy and Film in the Age of Technology: The Ontological Dimensions of the Identity Crisis and the Question of Post humanism n Michael bay's the Island

Pakistan Journal of Life and Social Sciences January 1, 2025 A E de Barr

Cinema, especially science fiction, serves as a vital arena for exploring philosophical crises of identity, reification, and posthumanism in an age of accelerating technology. Analyzing Michael Bay's 2005 film *The Island* as a case study, the article deconstructs its symbols, narrative, and characters within a hermeneutic framework. Drawing on Heidegger, Nancy, Hayles, and Braidotti, it examines ontological dimensions of identity, artificial versus authentic existence, biopower, and the struggle for consciousness and freedom. The article argues that film embodies and addresses contemporary philosophical problems with acuity and depth.
